ARAN ISLANDS TOUR

Tour Overview

This Tour takes you on a journey off the west coast of Galway to the edge of the ancient world with a trip to Inishmore, the largest of the three Aran Islands. Here you will witness the untamed barren landscape, the unique island lifestyle and hear the Gaelic/Irish language spoken daily. Visitor attractions include the 5th century Christian site of the Seven Churches, the Aran Sweater Market/Museum and Dun Aengus, the most magnificent and dramatically situated Celtic stone fort in Western Europe.

Tour Itinerary

9.45am
We travel by shuttle bus, with views of Galway Bay, through the seaside resort of Salthill, the tranquil village of Barna and Spiddal with its Irish summer schools and famous Celtic revival church. Along the way you will notice the road signs change from English to Irish as we enter the Gaeltacht or Irish speaking region. We transfer from bus to ferry at the port of Rossaveal and sail for approximately 45 minutes before arrival at Kilronan on the Island of Inishmore.

11.15am
From the main village of Kilronan you can explore the island interior and the popular ring of Aran by bus tour, trekking or bike rental. Popular visitor attractions include the cliff-top fortress of Dun Aengus (the most spectacular Celtic stone fort in Europe) and the early monastic ruins known as the seven churches. After lunch at Kilronan you have time to visit the Aran Sweater Market and Museum to learn the origins and history of the world famous Aran Sweater.

5.00 - 6.30pm
After shopping for souvenirs at Kilronan we make our return trip to the mainland by ferry where you will again be picked up by shuttle bus, arriving back in Galway city by evening time.
